Our Story

Since 1601 we have been on the quest to brew the perfect pilsner.

In 2004, a group of enterprising American craft brewers discovered the Trumer Brauerei in Salzburg, Austria. Instead of shipping Trumer Pils from Austria to the United States, those brewers built a sister brewery in Berkeley, California.  In 2026 brewing operations were relocated to the Central Coast of California.  Brewing in California allows beer drinkers in the US to enjoy Trumer Pils the way it was meant to be: fresh!

The Trumer USA team is committed to upholding the original Trumer Pils recipe by using the same hops, malt, and proprietary yeast as its sister brewery in Salzburg. Over the past 20+ years, Trumer USA has won 21 gold medals in the world’s most prestigious beer competitions positioning it truly as the most awarded pilsner in the world.

A family business in its eighth generation with over 400 years of history, beer culture is everything to Trumer.

Since 1775, the Austrian brewery has been owned by the Sigl family, and is currently led by eighth-generation owner Josef C. Sigl.

Trumer USA is proud to carry the torch in the US market on behalf of (and in collaboration with) the Sigl family.

Trumer Berkeley opens its doors. Trumer wins gold at European Beer Star.

1985

Josef Sigl VII modifies the brewery and focuses on the pilsner product niche.

1909

Trumer Austria brewhouse and cellar building were built and modernized.

1775

Josef Sigl I acquires the brewery in Obertrum.

1601

Obertrum receives the “Brewing Right” approval from Archbishop Wolf Dietrich.
